September 2, 2023 - Fermented and aged for 10 months in 500-liter oak barrels. 12,5% alcohol.

Quite youthful yellow-green color. The nose is surprisingly intense - piercing, even - but also rather linear with aromas of lemony citrus fruits and sweeter lemon curd tones, some steely mineral notes, a little bit of creamy oak, light juicy yellow fruit tones and a mineral hint of wet rocks. The wine feels ripe yet quite brisk and linear on the palate with a medium body and dry, intense flavors of lemon curd, some spicy mineral tones, a little bit of creamy oak, light crunchy notes of quince and a hint of tangy salinity. The high acidity lends great sense of structure and intensity to the wine. The finish is crisp and zippy with an intense, dry aftertaste of sharp, lemony citrus fruits, some saline mineral tones, a little bit of lemon curd, light incisive steely nuances, a hint of cantaloupe and a touch of woody spice.

A was surprised how lean, brisk and linear this wine was - it is not atypical for these von Winning GG Rieslings to be dry and acid-driven, but usually they show a lot more richness and breadth with somewhat more emphasis in oak character. While this wine did show those idiosyncratic oak nuances, the overall feel was still very high-strung and even a bit understated for the style. However, the wine also seemed very promising from the point of view of structure and fruit intensity, so most likely this wine will turn out great once it gets past this nervous and somewhat closed adolescent phase. Or then this will remain this kind of less showy, more incisive and mineral kind of von Winning GG. Who knows?

April 17, 2020 - Shame I don't have more people to drink Riesling with because I would buy a bottle of each vineyard of the Von Winnings. One is more spectacular than the next but I just can't drink enough to get through them all.

August 15, 2019 - Aroma: herbs and nuts, cut grass, wet stone, apple peel.
Palate: nicely balanced spice, mineral, apple, lime and grapefruit flavors. A hint of tarragon and a touch of nutty richness. Nicely complex with good acidity.

August 30, 2018 - Aroma: quite charmingly floral with herbal notes. Some tropical fruit.
Palate: very long and complex. Balanced herbal and tropical fruit flavors with underlying mineral notes. Some creamy richness. Very good.

February 11, 2018 - The nose was intense with minerals upon minerals before opening up to reveal savory herbs, lime and ripe apple. On the palate, I found an expression of liquid minerality offset by rich textures and green apple cut. The finish was long and mouth-watering intense, resonating of green apple acidity.
