Community Tasting Notes 7

October 7, 2023 - Quite youthful but with 2-hours of air and a lamb shank, it really comes together. The wine is succulent and intense with super-pure and rich dark cherry/blueberry fruit combined with sizzling acidity. Despite it's power, it comes together beautifully in a taut, silky package. The finish is just loaded with Vosne-like spices and complex notes of minerals and violets. A really lifted wine with a second gear at the end. This producer's wines, which are often difficult and reduced early on, really is spot-on at least in the 2015 vintage. One of the best young Clos Vougeot's I've ever tasted. 95+

March 3, 2018 - La Paulée de San Francisco - Grand Tasting (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Tasting, brief note. Red and black cherry with some roasted meat. Good+ structure and balance, also slightly lighter styled. Slightly simpler than I'd expect from Grand Cru in this vintage, but wonderfully elegant.

March 3, 2018 - La Paulée de SF Grand Tasting (Fairmont Hotel, SF CA): Very attractive nose with big red and black fruit and exotic spice. Great lift and purity on the palate despite the richness. 93-94

March 3, 2018 - Some Wines from the 2018 La Paulée Grand Tasting of 2015 Burgundy (The Fairmont, San Francisco): Red color. Soft red fruit, earth, good acidity, medium finish. Better than the Echezeaux but hardly worthy of Grand Cru status. Will somebody please clue me in as to what I am missing with these wines?
