August 22, 2021 - Mainly apple, lemon, good supporting acidity, stony. Extremely nice wine, in a perfect shape, with the usual oxidative elements which are always present in this cuvée. Unfortunately my last one.

February 3, 2021 - WOW! What a brilliant wine. Almost 20 years old and still with an incredible freshness and clarity in the aromas. Overly complex in mouth and nose, very nice, ripe and at the same time animating acidity. Beautiful interplay of yellow apples, ripe pears, some shortbread. Its age is best guessed by the complexity and the wonderful harmony, it does not show obvious age notes. A wine to meditate on, so beautiful, so graceful, so balanced and yet with a lot of character.

September 20, 2020 - Wow, this wine is so intense. Golden colored but searingly bone dry. Starting to take on some honeycomb and lanolin mature notes but there is just so much chalky limestone covering the lemon. It's really interesting how the white is the most reflective of vintage among the Rougeard wines. I find the reds really consistent from both a style and quality perspective from vintage to vintage. The white is all over the place and this is a perfect representation of 2002: bracing and intense with a driving mineral finish. Fascinating.

    January 5, 2020 - Had with friends
The nose was really nice with strong tropical fruit, honey, tea, little shells.
Palate had lots of honey, citrus, cream, nuts, and some tea with some minerals.
The finish was long and there was really great acidity for a wine of this age.
    Very nice bottle of wine.

January 5, 2020 - A study on contrasts here with this beauty. Nose shows bold, waxy, honeyed, lamp oil notes, along with lots of tea, chalk, crushed shells, wild green herbs. The texture is plump and gorgeous, but the acidity is racy and lip-smacking, and the wine is full of life and verve throughout. The apricot and lemon fruit is still lively, and balanced nicely with nougat, honey, almond elements. I love the chalk dust, oyster brine, minerals and white tea elements. So alive, yet integrated well with all these years. Really special stuff.

Rockss and Fruit

(Clos Rougeard Saumur "Breze") This showed terribly. Just young, awkward, oaky, not too acidic but with potential down the road. There was a nice salinity to this wine and the nose was nice at one point but this needs time. There was a very vibrant pineapple note that some people liked or hated. I did not mind it. But all in all this wine showed very badly. But there is half a bottle left for tonight and I will see where this baby is at later. LATER: The next night it was clean, crisp with some light oak notes. Reminded me of a killer Meursault. I loved it. I still have some for night three which will be tonight. If you have any of these let them sleep for ten years minimum. It is amazing what a night in the fridge will do to a structured disjointed white wine.
