September 12, 2009 - A private dinner (Restaurant Gästehaus Klaus Erfort ***, Saarbrücken, Germany): Wonderful, ripe nose, creamy, good fruit, depth, spicy warmth, refined oak, very different from Burgundy, not a trace of the forest floor, hint of honey; good weight, slightly rigid tannins, dry but juicy, velvety; good but not great length, slightly hot. Drink now, I guess.

December 12, 2008 - Next to Kruger-Rumpf's 'G' 2004, this is probably the closest to Burgundy that Germany comes. Deep earth notes, mushrooms, some tree bark, silky cherry flavors and lacy tannin. 2008 is probably about right for the start of the drinking window, but I don't know if I'd hold on to this much longer.
