July 6, 2020 - There's no mistaking this for anything but a Spanish red, specifically a heavily-American-oaked Tempranillo, a Ribera del Duero though it seems more like a Rioja, and more Reserva than Crianza, with its aromas of coconut, brown spice, vanilla, and melted butter. Those prominent notes, replayed on the fairly soft palate, are almost overbearing (if fine enough for what they are), though there's a decent amount of acidity and freshness, channeled through dark berries and ripe cherries, enough at least to keep this elevated somewhat above the thick puddle of oakiness.
