April 15, 2011 - No notes, but this still has some life left, despite being past its prime. Evolved well over the course of the dinner and still had life left when I revisited 6 hours later. A bit dull, good complexity, prominent kalamata olive.

July 17, 2007 - San Diego Pinot-fest (Cuvee Restaurant - Del Mar, CA): This was an interesting wine to taste but not to drink. In spite of the ironic novelty of this wine, I found it rather incoherent and lifeless as a pinot; it should have been euthanized years ago. Aromas of charred cabbages and beef broth give way to a very off-putting flavor of cabbage stew and beef jerky on the palate (and I like beef jerky!). Acid and wood closes off the experiment. Undrinkable, to me at least.

July 12, 2007 - Dead and smelled like it had been buried for a while.

December 15, 2006 - 30 years of Santa Cruz / Mount Eden Pinot Noirs with Dan Kravitz: My second time with this wine. The first was with our host in Baltimore along with Dan Kravitz so it was fun to taste it again with Dan. I would have bet the farm this was the 1980 Mount Eden as having just revealed the 1979 in the prior flight the similarities were splitting images. The difference I found between the 79 to 80 was that the 80 had more reverence (a little more of everything) while the 79 is slightly more delicate. Both are clearly blockbusters. Made from 100% whole cluster as was the 79, this practice stopped in 1982 unfortunately. In a word, Awesome!
