Community Tasting Notes 3

June 10, 2020 - My last bottle of this vintage. This wine from the cellar of Chapel Hill vineyard at McLaren Vale is a muted example of the typical MV style of wine. It's light with restrained fruit, tannin, acidity and chalky chocolate..

This wine is only available from the cellar door. It's pleasant enough as a simple quaffer. At $35 a bottle,it won't send you broke, unless of course you consume a caseload.

June 27, 2019 - There is an immediate earthiness to this wine on the nose that is intriguing and being you back wondering what more there is. With a subtle sweet apple and sherbet aroma coupled with an apple strudel type background you could think this is a vanilla sweetness in the aroma but the acidic sharpness snaps you out of this.

Visually this is a very bright traditional red that has a clarity and purity that is driven as much by age perhaps as by the mix of the GSM structure. Either way it looks great and the legs on this really are surprisingly solid and glass coating stickier than I was expecting.

The taste profile of this wine is impressive from the get go. The length is reasonable and there is a lovely lingering spiciness that makes you realise you are enjoying a Barossa Shiraz that has been softened with the combination. My initial thoughts are hints of olive, black current and cranberry with a touch of cider type acidic undertones that make this very interesting.

There is a subtly mouth feel that is less textured and more length than anything else. It certainly ensures that you are excited but perhaps if you like a fullness then this is not for you.

Overall I really like this and over time I think the balance of this wine will leave you with a little more character.

July 29, 2018 - Adelaide trip; 7/26/2018-7/29/2018 (Adelaide and the surrounding environs): Red berry, smidge of blackberry and peppery spice, slightly earthy notes. Juicy, fleshy, fruit with grippy, gritty drying tannins. Very nice if not a little short.
