Community Tasting Notes 22

January 28, 2023 - Classic California cab from a very good year. Had with grilled ribeyes. Lots of black fruit and dark cherry flavors balanced with tobacco, chocolate. Long finish, holding up well though probably past its prime.

February 9, 2018 - Stunning Duxkhorn cab. Great balance, elegance and complexity. Long long finish. Still plenty of fresh fruit with spice and forest canopy notes.

December 31, 2012 - Pretty good. Suffered by comparison to 97 Pichon and 04 Axios. Worthy of NYE but not as good as I had expected.

May 27, 2012 - Nice older cab nose, with good fruit (black cherry, blackcurrant), licorice, and some cedar. Not as oaky as my previous bottle 4 yrs ago. This is, IMHO a bit disappointing, given the reputation of Duckhorn's estate bottlings and the vintage. Tried this against the 2001 Montelena Estate Cab, which fared much better.

February 11, 2012 - Seems a little past it's prime. Beautiful nose of black berries and ripe black cherries with a little flowery note. Perfectly balanced mouthfeel with a little leathery quality. Berries and black cherry with a little cola flavors. Medium finish. Was wonderful with a steak dinner which didn't include any strong spices. (nothing overpowered from either side)
