April 22, 2023 - Opened about 3 hours before but possibly needed a little more air. Surprisingly no signs I’m of bricking despite the age. Initially some serious old sock smell but after half an hour in glass that mostly blew off. Modest nose and at the time we probably agreed with WYCROFTFORBURY that this was an enjoyable fully resolved claret but not complex. We then had a 2014 Man o’ War Kulta - a good Bordeaux blend. That seemed very sweet and over the top after the Coleraine. We went back to the Coleraine and showed it the respect it deserved - old school mature Bordeaux which was extremely well balanced with fruit present but definitely fading balanced with fully resolved tannins, moderate acidity and a smokey savoury character. Drink now but it was in surprisingly good condition

December 24, 2022 - Beautiful example of fully resolved and mature claret. None of the green or herbaceous notes I’ve read in some notes tasted about 10 years ago on this site. Not complex, but lovely in all respects. A perfect Christmas Eve wine with roast turkey, alongside the 1996 - see separate note ;-)

November 2, 2012 - Still quite deep in colour but now claret rather than purple and with a faint hint of brick at the rim.
Quite pervasive nose mixing quite bright blackcurrant fruit, leafiness/green pepper, with swirling revealing much richer fruit.
Medium bodied but with good intensity and complexcity. Acidity keeps it in line without ever seeking attention for itself. Quite old world style. -

July 7, 2012 - Red creeping into the claret colour, though there is still good depth of colour.
Plummy nose but with some citrus lift, backed by pencil shavings and some background blackcurrant/leafiness.
Medium bodied palate with subtle, but fresh and persistent fruit. Decent length, but overall feels a little lighter than previous bottles. -

June 10, 2012 - Showing some age in the colour and also with a slightly dull hue.
The nose however shows a healthy mix of mint-edged blackcurrant, subtle green pepper and a touch of coffee. Meanwhile, on the somewhat velvety palate, there is some rich plum to join the fruit and (more noticeable) coffee, together with ample acidity to keep it in line. This wine strikes a nice balance between still vibrant fruit/velvety texture, and enough restraint and acidity to avoid any risk of flabbiness.
