Community Tasting Notes 14

October 24, 2020 - Very faint tertiary flavors for a wine of its age. Still a big, enjoyable wine but I sense this would have been better as a younger wine as transformation via aging never seemed to have happened. Muted but pleasant nose of sawdust, plums and a slight whiff of old leather car seats. Well-balanced juicy mouth - dark fruit, some umami and licorice. Medium finish of dried fruit.

September 29, 2018 - Deep and brooding, this wine in at a nice point with 17 years to develop. Brick in the middle with purple and garnet on the rim. Rich, milkshake texture with noticeable tannins that haven’t precipitated out just yet. Earthy, peaty notes dominate the nose along with allspice and just a touch of clove. Palate is hedonistic with the almost rustic texture and creaminess. Palate adds a smoky, black licorice, overripe berry note. Add some cocoa and a long finish and you have an amazing wine.

February 28, 2016 - Good wine but $60 is way too much. Good dense fruit on nose. Medium body with decent tannin structure that clearly is on the decline.

In a blind tasting I would think this is either very well made Zin or a $25 Petite Syrah.
