January 8, 2024 - Damn this is intense - an immense nose of a cold stream over slatey minerals and rocks, hints of apricots and peaches, brothy yellow minerality. The palate is stunning - seemingly endless reserves of flavor, and waves of minerality. It starts or with the peachy/apricot goodness and explodes with nearly salty extract. So pinpoint and yet so potent - when trilled the apricot expands and focuses at the same time to the point where it’s almost painful. The finish is of bitter peach/apricot skin and pits with minerals and broth. Very austere and it feels like you have to scrape the crushed rock dust off your tongue afterwards. I drink almost no Alsatian wine and even less dry alsatians but this is seriously good. Thanks to DBKITC and Rieslingfan for their reviews which pushed me to try this. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17/20.

December 25, 2023 - The wine of the night. Great Alsacien Riesling. Intensity, balance, purity.

December 27, 2021 - This is a great wine that is getting better with every bottle. Introduced to this producer at Auberge de L’Ill and glad to have gotten the recommendation. Pale color belies the pure fragrance and the intensity. Somehow this has the impact of the regions heavy hitters (ZH, Deiss) yet does it in a dry, taught manner that is both lively as an aperitif and a great food accompaniment. Rocky and pure. Sublime and good to go. (95)

September 12, 2020 - Glorious Riesling. Very pale color is followed by a glorious nose full of yellow plum, cucumber and gravel. The nose is terrific but the palate really shines. Lots of depth but light and agile. Terrific purity. Long. Just fabulous. Will only get better over the next few years. (94+)

June 22, 2020 - First time trying this bottling, and my first Kientzler in several years. Initially quite stern, and showing clearly dry. Over a few hours it opened up and filled out, revealing much greater palate richness, fruit definition (crisp peach, quince, apple), and just the barest hint of sweetness (not sure of the RS level, but the Kientzler wines skew to the drier end of the scale for modern Alsace). All the time I followed the wine it felt like a dinner wine, rather than an aperitif style. Nicely done, and I am glad to have a few more bottles.
