July 25, 2020 - Informal dinner, no notes taken. Tasted double blind. Easily identifiable as Central Californian Syrah with all the dark black fruit, quite ripe but in no way overripe, lots of spices, some herbs and savoury notes. While it showed still young, is ready to drink with a super soft structure and a better harmony than these wines show young sometimes. Nevertheless, more age will enhance complexity and improve the experience further. I guess this will develop further for another 10-15 years. Decanted for roughly 2 hours which seems fine. Easily 95/96 points today.

November 16, 2019 - USA Syrah tasting in Vino and Friends. (By JK in Maastricht): What a great wine to end this tasting with. Just a tad better than the Bionic Frog 2014 which was a feast as well. In the bouquet beautiful sweet fruits and spices as well as some smoke. Same on the palate. Extremely full bodied and yet also elegant with a great balance between sweetness and acidity.

August 17, 2019 - SQN & BBQ (The Krengels - Bannockburn IL): Small glass, brief note from memory. Lots of black fruit with a spice profile more savory vs sweet. Very rich and dense, slowly evolved with great charm. Perhaps not as great as it was a decade+ ago, but close. Thrilled to taste from a good bottle - the last three times tasted, we had corked bottles!

February 23, 2019 - Rich, huge, but caressing and approachable, with some balance despite the 15.2%, I actually sort of liked this. I think it's aged pretty well too. Heritage Auction Blind Tasting at Jean-Georges Vegas after party

August 4, 2018 - Sine Qua Non (SQN) Magnum Extravaganza + Bevan, Mike Smith, Sparkling/Champagne, and others (Calistoga): From magnum. Kirsch, over-ripe strawberry, red cherry, bruised/brown red raspberry, tobacco leaf, warm leather, and some incense. A ton of energy here, with the spicy over-ripe strawberry note repeating over and over agin on the delivery. The finish was fairly long, eventually tapering off to slightly bitter spice and strawberry seed notes.

The first magnum was horribly corked ($4,000+ down the drain...ouch!). This was the second of two magnums. Drinking good now, and could possibly go for another year or so without too much variation (but that's a pretty broad assumption on my part). Personally, for my palate, I wouldn't wait much longer. The windows for SQNs delivering at their apexes seems to be around a decade from vintage...meaning, the 2007/2008 vintages are drinking AWESOME right now.

    Drink this 2002 now.
