March 31, 2024 - Massive wine. Will try to hold off drinking this. Built for the ages .

June 23, 2023 - Not rating it now. Didn’t enjoy at all now, but accept it may just be wayyyy too young. High alcohol and not much else.

April 3, 2022 - Very unique stuff that had a lot of evolution over a 24 hour period. Upon first opening your struck with the raw intensity of this. Juicy red fruit, slight prune, mineral, vanilla, cracked pepper…. There’s heat here and tannins grip your teeth.

After about five hours open it really settle down and actually muted itself of most interest. Pumped overnight and the next day it was lights out. No sharp edges/heat and just pure/clean red fruit. Texturally it’s dense and glass staining but there’s a very nice lift to the body. This needs at least another five years.

December 13, 2021 - Hmmm... Looking back on my old notes, I must have really enjoyed this, but this particular bottle was quite pruney. Purchased at retail from the same lot as the others, it's highly extracted, with dense licorice notes, raisined like Amarone, high in alcohol, with some RS and a lengthy finish; but one I didn't totally love. Hoping this is bottle variation.

July 7, 2021 - 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape 99/100 point wine taste-off (and a couple of pirate Rhone wines): This is a total gym rat of a CdP, with power and chewy toughness forming the frame for ripe black and dark red raspberry fruit flavors punching their way through the palate (rather than along the palate), so much so that you physically have to chew yourself a sip of this wine. It is a bit raw and rugged in its current state, but the flavors do start to yield and expand with some vigorous swirling. This is a meat-lovers wine, but it lacks finesse and polish right now. Put Baby in a corner and don’t talk to her for the next five or six summers. 93-94+ point potential.

I personally find the 2017 Charles Giraud to have more flesh and sultry satisfaction in its delivery when compared to the 2016. For me, the 2016 is all about supremacy and domination. The 2017 is more lavish and feather boa. The 2016 is Kim Jong Un. The 2017 is Psy.
