September 20, 2020 - PnP'd. Turns out the wine would have been much better to decant. Still, layers of aromatics, good fruit and tannins. Not overly extracted. More elegant than most Sicilians. Excellent QPR.

August 9, 2020 - From memory. Two more great bottles at a recent dinner, decanted 3+ hours. Now at age five, it seems to be be getting better, with charm, aromatic complexity, structure, sappy acidity, moderate tannins and balance.

June 14, 2020 - Another great bottle of Lagnusa! Decanted one hour before dinner. The wine has gained weight and sweetness with age, and tonight the violets and licorice were prominent as never before. Just like the typical Nero d’Avola is compared with typical Malbec and Merlot in terms of the wine’s dark color, extraction etc, THIS wine really does need to be compared more appropiately to warm-climate Pinot Noir or Nerello Mascalese from Etna. It has has a transparent color, great structure and delineation, tremendous aromatics, sappy acidity, very nice, grainy tannins and a long, mineral, bittersweet finish. Outstanding QPR.

April 21, 2020 - This is another great bottle of the 2015 Lagnusa. Double decanted and served, it evolved a lot with air and was better on night two. For those who do not know the wine, it is not a typical, highly extracted Nero d’Avola in the style of most California or Argentine reds. Instead, it is a medium body wine that focuses on structure, aromatics and balance. It has a bright, translucent color with a darker core; sweet floral and plum fragrances; excellent acidity; gentle but persistent fine tannins; and a very long and complex finish of bittersweet black cherry and minerals. It has many fine years left ahead of it and was a 92+ on night one and 93+ on night two. Excellent QPR.
