March 22, 2017 - Still in its preferred window, this really benefits from prior aeration. On the more simple, open-knit side of things for the first 45 minutes, this added depth of fruit and complexity with each successive glass. It's as if the structure woke up after the first half of the bottle, with the acidity picking up some needed vigor. Medium-bodied, soft, and round; Medium complexity, avg finish. Solid food wine that should offer some nice tertiary complexity in another 5 or 7 years. recommended

Served non-blind. Cork/fill in vg condition. Served s/b/s with the 2000 Elio Grasso Mate, this was the inferior wine in terms of build and complexity, but no doubt others may prefer the easy approachability found here in the Brezza.

May 2, 2013 - This was the first bottle out of a case purchased from Storyteller, delivered mid April, 2013, and allowed to recover for 3 weeks before opening. It was decanted for 2.5 hours leaving a very modest granular sediment and accompanied Chanterelle raviolis with a tomato and asparagus sauce.
The color was a vibrant light brick with exceptional clarity. The earthy-floral aromas were initially shy but grew fuller and more enticing with additional air time. The mouth feel was exquisite with a lovely weight and balance. Classic mature Nebbiolo flavors built impressively in the mouth and carried through to a clean finish with silky tannins edging through at the end.
This is an elegant presentation of Nebbiolo that emphasizes subtlety and finesse rather than power and it paired perfectly with the pasta as well as the Italian cheeses that followed. It is a very lovely wine that drinks well now (with a good airing) and should hold for another 8-10 years. At $41/btl with shipping it was an excellent value.

    UPDATE: 8/9/2014
Half the bottle was transferred to a 375 and refrigerated. The balance was left to breathe in decanter for an hour before serving with chicken parmesan and spaghetti topped with a fresh tomato sauce. It was a lovely, elegantly styled, Barolo totally consistent with the 5 earlier bottles. It is in full stride now and showing no signs of fading.

January 2, 2013 - While this is extravagantly aromatic from the get-go (classic roses and violets, with a touch of tar), the palate is rather muted, and it's not even all that tannic. Considering the lack of sediment and tannins, I'm wondering if this was fined and/or filtered? Still, it's otherwise correct with not a hint of oak, and it's pleasurable with beef.

June 4, 2011 - Good. needs more time (a few-3+ years) for further integration

May 8, 2011 - Mothers Day Lunch at Scopri. Great colour. Nose evolved gradually. Palate really came alive when the food arrived. Tobacco, roses and truffle on the nose, but drank so sweetly with slow-cooked lamb and spatchcock.Beautiful wine.
