April 25, 2024 - Domaine de Beaurenard's 2016 Châteauneuf is a deep ruby blend of 66% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, with the remainder being comprised of several other permitted varietals. Intensely aromatic, it offers scents of dark bramble fruits, Provençal herbs, licorice, five-spice and loamy earth. Medium-bodied, lightly oaked, freshly acidic, softly tannic and with well-integrated alcohol (14.5%), it delivers flavors in line with the aromas, adding a mineral component on the dense mid-palate. Long and supple on the back end, this is an elegant Southern Rhone that should show well for several more years. Serially tasted over a three-hour period from a bottle that had been Vinturi-decanted, this reached a nice plateau after the first 30 minutes in carafe. Drink now-2030.

June 2, 2023 - Plum, liquorice, herbs. Sweet smell. Huge body, firm dusty drying tannin. Excellent but needs more time.

May 5, 2023 - Decanted for 3 hours. Aromas of potpourri, raspberry, cherry, melted chocolate and hint of iron. Flavors of cherry, boysenberry, raspberry and touch of iron. Ends with a 20 second finish that is a bit clipped. Not a bad wine but was expecting more when we got these.

February 11, 2023 - Unimpressive and slightly bitter. This has absolutely no aging potential (drink it now), but the positive traits were: slightly tannic, mild oak and a bit spicey.
This wine is made in a style intended to please the masses but instead it pleases no one. I poured this wine for several wine savvy friends and everyone thought is was mediocre at best. I was hoping for great things but experienced a Mediterranean fruit bomb that was neither good nor bad, just plain boring.

September 11, 2022 - Nice wine. Saved a glass in the bottle until day three. Improved. Should benefit with a few years.
