Community Tasting Notes 13

April 20, 2024 - Decanted (Voss) for ~3+hrs before serving. Somewhat subdued, in my opinion, though this wasn't as clamped up as the 2014 Clape. Very dark-purplish (almost black), there was just a slight/faint nose of pepper, spices with blackberries. Balanced on the palate, with more notes of blackberries, meat & earth, it seemed to be just plain proper (with balanced freshness) with not much excitement to shout about unlike the '08 Allemand Reynard which was definitely more showy/showing...

November 7, 2023 - brought by a friend to a white truffle dinner. it was tasted blind alongside several baroli and a barbaresco. the wine was identified accurately and quickly by the group as a cote rotie. dark purplish in color with lovely aromatics of cherry and earth. on the palate, there was a distinct softness along with a very feminine pastile character (due to the viognier). medium bodied with soft tannins and ample acidity, the wine showed cherry, blackberry, black pepper, and a little spice. the highlight of the wine was the super long finish. a beautiful effort all around.

November 1, 2023 - Double decanted around 1pm and taken to a white truffle dinner with OenoEd and vinus_operandi at v_o's house. There was a great selection of truffle dishes that were spot on with the wines...'09 G. Conterno Francia Barolo, '16 M. Rostaing Cote-Rotie Blonde, '13 Cavallotto Bricco Boschis, and '15 Produttori del Barbaresco Montestefano Riserva, all blinded when served with some of the wines double blind to each of us. Dishes included a very creative seared and lightly smoked venison carpaccio with morels, blackberries and white truffle et al, soft scrambled eggs with white truffles, classic homemade tajarin with butter and white truffle, and a fried porcini risotto cake, not to mention a delicious apple tart dessert.
I thought this was likely Cote-Rotie or a reasonable facsimile from Italy (I have had a few). I thought it 8-10 years old, not far off... Seemed floral so likely had Viognier in the blend, which it does. Very primary pure fruit, mostly black, also some licorice. Medium to light bodied for Syrah, quite on the "feminine side". By no means over-powering, very elegant. Still quite young with fresh bright acidity and a long fruit and floral filled finish. Wonderful balance. There was some debate amongst us about the aging of this wine and whether it would acquire some of the classic meaty secondary tones typical of the appellation... I was a bit in the middle on that, thinking it might but doesn't really need it. OneoEd, who brought it, thought the winemakers opinion was the right way to think of it as just such a pretty, fruit driven wine, it was one of his favorites of the last decade or so without the need to see long cellaring.

May 17, 2021 - Appearance: dark ruby with purple hues, bright and clear.
Nose: after an initial reduction, it opens up to notes of dark fruit, blackberry and blackcurrants, dark fresh flowers, spicy black pepper and twiggy notes coming from the partial inclusion of stems during fermentation. A distinctive note of burnt rubber blows off after some time, typical of Syrah from Cote Rôtie.
Palate: the dusty grippy tannins provide plenty of structure, without being heavy, and supported by a pronounced freshness that carries the sip into a streak of dark fruits and sweet spices, liquorice and cinnamon.
Velvety texture and a slight rustic feel to it.
Overall beautiful wine with plenty of potential. Would be nice to revisit in a few years. Lay down for now.

December 14, 2019 - Noter från dag två med halva flaskan kvar och kork i i källare med ca 10 grader.

    Härligt blålilaröd.

Väldigt subtila dofter men väldigt många nyanser - Friska björnbär, sälta, gröna russin, aska

    Elegant! Ren! Snygg!

    Såg att CT satte 96,3.

Jag är helt enig. Det är exakt 96,3 men det här har möjlighet att kvala in på min topp-tre-Norra-Rhone om fem-tio år.

... Lika bra att knalla ner och öppna en flaska till ikväll. Det är ju söndag i morgon! Den må vi helga!
