  December 8, 2023 - Birthday Celebration (State Street Manor & Racquet Club - Chicago IL): Double decanted a few hours in advance. Very rich while wonderfully balanced layered cherry with a complex spice box. Unlike vintage Unico, I find Especial has the same profile but is this accessible much sooner.

  October 11, 2022 - Medium ruby with clearing at the edge but no bricking. Upon opening (and at cellar temperature), it’s a very Cabernet nose with cassis and bramble fruit. Decanted for 30 minutes, and the layers of complexity started to emerge. Leather, earth, tobacco, tomato, cherry. Just a hint of vanilla, the oak is certainly not overbearing at all. On the palate, this is a class act. Elegant but powerful, with a very long finish. The tannins are very fine and nearly entirely resolved. The wine is just a touch sweet, thanks in part to the 14.5% abv. Medium acidity. With the masses of fruit left, this should last another decade or more, but I really see no reason to wait.

  June 24, 2022 - Beautiful perfumed nose with sweet coconut hints, then comes ripe cherries and plum along with sexy fine grained tannins. Earth and tobacco too.
  
  Ultra long finish, I clocked this at at least 30-40 seconds with a sensuous mouthfeel and sophistication.
  
  Unico Reserva Especial is a blend of different vintages of Unico which in this case is the 2005/6/7. Only the best vintages of UNICO are used, with equally limited production of only 58 barrels. A true privilege to enjoy this tonight at Pinchos, Kuala Lumpur.

  October 29, 2020 - Opened alongside a 1966 Unico, it was no surprise that for the longest time this wine was all-oak. It did settle down over time. What I liked most about the wine was its focused, almost linear and very long finish. Hedonistic and delicious, especially with food. That said, it didn't come close to approaching the best of the single-vintage Unicos I've enjoyed, and makes me concerned that the more recent releases will indeed prove to be over-oaked, as many suspect.
