I disagree with those suggesting this is over the hill. This is in a perfect spot and will drink well for at least another 5 plus years. Impeccable balance with just the right amount of fruit throughout. The finish went on and on. This was exactly what I was hoping for. This paired well with courses of northern Italian cuisine. For those of you trying to discover the virtues of this one-of-a-kind producer, Giacosa's 1999 Barolo will give you a succinct and educational introduction to the wonders of the winery. For those of you well-versed in the splendor, this wine represents a terrific example to enjoy while you are waiting for the single vineyard or Riserva wines to mature. For the price of a new-release Barolo from any number of sources, you can have this winery-aged example from Giacosa that is a treat to consume now and over the next decade.
