Community Tasting Notes 2

April 9, 2022 - Decanted for 90 minutes. Medium garnet colour, light sediment. Red fruit, cherry, dried red berries, dried strawberry, light iodine, forest floor, and complex spice notes, with good acidity, mostly resolved and well-integrated tannin, and very good length of the spice-driven and lightly balsamic finish. Broad, and smoothly textured, with intriguing old-age sweetness. The last glass drank best. Even more compelling on day two in its intriguing combination of old age sweetness and intense spice. Sweet, earthy, and smooth but shorter and lightly drying on day three. Mature. Drink now and over the next five or six years.

January 30, 2018 - The bottle was in perfect condition. The wine was medium garnet in colour and threw some sediment. It had a very expressive nose of red fruit, cherry, Asian spice, iodine and forest floor aromas, which were joined by floral notes after some aeration. On the palate, the medium-complex wine showed sweet, ripe red fruit, cherry and intriguing spice as well as earthy and balsamic notes, with lively acidity, well-integrated tannin and very good length. The broad, medium-bodied, flavourful wine had a good, full and smooth mouthfeel, and was smooth, very balanced and very seductive! It did not show any signs of going into decline anytime soon; to the contrary, well-kept bottles like this should be good for another five to ten years. This affordable Spätburgunder once more confirmed my view that Pinot Noir should not to be touched before it is at least 20 years old. A lovely wine! I recommend decanting for 90 minutes.
