February 16, 2024 - From 75cl, good cork, decanted 3 hours, took another hour in the glass to start opening up. Scent and palate closed up tight, this bottle at least was playing its cards very close to its chest. Dried blackberry fruit, some elegant floral perfume (violets dipped in road tar?), tight, polished-tannic texture. I think it is a decade away from maturity, and am frankly taken back by the stellar CT ratings below (and the current average rating 95,5P—the highest for any vintage of this wine). Better in 2030? Or perhaps in 2040? NR

    August 31, 2023 - 92/95 I know it's a wide bracket but it's a monster and superlative wine...

Nose of ripe fruit, with loads of mint, eucalypt, oak spices, vanilla and tar, dark skinned baby... it's plummy and yet fresh due to all those eucalypt notes

Luscious, and big palate, wine of superlative style, without being overwhelming nor "disgusting" as some huge shiraz can be... keeps the acidity and freshness alive ! Tannins are high, as alcohol is, but the fruit and oak, and overall balance makes it elegant and powerful at the same time. Give it maybe 15 more years to be a bit ready. Still if one loves that kind of Barossa young, it is already enjoyable.

Maybe it can reach a rarely given 95/97 in my little narrow minded head :)

June 18, 2023 - Supper with Daniel (and the girls) (E & M's in the rocks, Sydney): From half bottle. A safe bet. Plenty of ripe dark fruit married to aa fair lick of oak offering aa little sweet spice, vanilla, Even from half bottle this is showing as quite primary though the palate is balanced in a shouty way. I think we were all just happy it wasn't flawed.

    September 27, 2022 - Tasted after a 90 minute decant.
Dark ruby in colour with lovely, enticing aromas of sweet black fruit, chocolate, floral/lavender & earth.
On the palate, full bodied black fruit, blackberry/boysenberry/cassis, chocolate, blackberry jam, floral note, earthy/forest floor, high acidity, medium soft tannins with a long finish to black pepper & tar.
This is not a fruit bomb, but is fruit precise. At ABV 14% it’s rather restrained compared to many red wines these days. Aromas & flavour absolutely excellent!
Still terrific juicy flavour on night #3!

May 2, 2022 - Lunch at Hertford. Drank from decanter over 3 hours. Drank in Gabriel Standart.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of earthy tar, fruity black plums, blackberries, black cherries, brambly purple boysenberries and blueberries, flashes of vanilla oak. Truly a slight earthy fungal tone with more air. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acid, medium+ alcohol (14%), very fine high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of toasty vanilla cream oak, blackberries, black cherries, black plums, boysenberries, dark earthy tar, fine peppery spice with air. Long finish.
Very very good quality. The kind of Barossa Shiraz I like. Good fruitiness with additional nuance and definitely not a bomb. Will continue to develop well with more age.
