February 19, 2023 - Easy to give this 100pts. Ah-so used on the stiff cork. Aerated by pouring half-glass then it sat for 4 hours. Nose of sweet french oak, buttery violets, lots of pencil lead but heady black fruits too. The most BALANCED, LOOOONGEST FINISH wine I've experienced.
2nd half of the bottle was still rich, balanced pencil lead and violets but more spicy blackberry fruit. The spice was still velvety from the perfectly matched sweet oak and velvety mouthfeel from this silky tannins. Awesome now, early 2023 but will hold for 3-5 years like this and beyond. Drink in your widest mouth burgundy glass to get your nose in it.

August 16, 2021 - A rare, one-of-a kind wine. That said, kind of a disappointment. Maybe it's because the storage wasn't ideal, but this wine was just too alcoholic. At 16.3% abv it was too overblown. I might have guessed Petit Syrah had I tasted it blind -- dense, hot notes of licorice, black berry, creosote, and prunes.

October 5, 2019 - My last bottle. Upon seeing my previous note and my 2 year prediction of goodness I had to give it a try. It was still going strong. I double recanted it after a P&P did not provide me the expected nose and finish. After the DD it was delivering on all sides. What a mouthful of dark berry goodness. A bit of saddle shop and strong tannin present. I love this winery and wish this blend was a more regular offering.

December 21, 2017 - This may be just past the peak but it is still very good and should be for another year or 2. . Tannins are fully resolved and the glycerin level make for a velvety viscosity. Cassis and dark cherry with a bit of other dark berries round a smooth slice of pie. Despite the alcohol level there is no heat. Enjoy this one time time special effort now and with just a spin it will open right up. I bought a couple of bottles years back upon my first visit to L'Aventure when the tasting room was in the old "hanger". If you are in the Paso zone this winery is a must stop and their new tasting room is grand.
