August 6, 2023 - Medium ruby. Blackberry, plum, violet, vanilla and menthol. Lots of tertiary aromas of tobacco and forest floor. Good acidity, grippy and drying tannins, high alcohol with slightly hot finish. Good finish

March 20, 2022 - We wound up the 26th Virtual Wine tasting event with this Cabernet blend from Afrique de Sud. Following the blockbuster Anwilka was no easy task but as soon as I smelled this deep ruby beaut I mentioned to the group that they were going to love it. I was not wrong.

At 7 years of age this wine is starting to show tertiary aromas of funk, barnyard, leather, cigar box and cassis alongside the primal blackberry, licorice, mint and Sarsaparilla. I thought it was a spectacular array of aromas- very complex. On the palate this wine was super smooth with very well integrated tannins, medium acidity, medium body and a medium length finish. The flavors were yummy- plum, blackberry, cassis, leather, milk chocolate, lavender and smoke. A beautifully melded package of wine components that is drinking at peak now and needs to be consumed by 2025. I awarded it 19/20 and will go with 93 points. $50 gets you a taste of this 5 star effort. I would pair it with braised leg of lamb or a Moroccan Tagine.

November 27, 2021 - Served by friends to accompany beef steak. Opened and decanted one hour. Dark blackcurrant colour. This is a big wine showing all of its 14% alcohol. Lovely blackcurrant nose. The palate is less fruity, dusty, quite long. Probably at its peak now, but would keep longer.

November 21, 2020 - Nose: The nose is forward, but balanced and plush with dark red cherries, cranberries, red and black currants, bell pepper, embers, licorice, cedar, and spice notes.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with medium acidity and balanced, medium+ tannins. The tannins are present, but they aren't the show while the feel is plush and balanced with dark red cherries, cranberries, black currants, bell peppers, licorice, cedar, and spice notes.

Overall: This is drinking beautifully and is a great introduction into South African Cabernet. This has great dark red fruits with the pyrazines being present but entirely in a good way. This is perfect for drinking right now.
