May 17, 2021 - Château Royaumont, Lalande-de-Pomerol, 2018: This wine opened up after 2 days... Dark garnet. On the nose, aromas of ripe black cherries, raspberries, rich pipe tobacco, bell pepper, and toasted oak. Full-bodied, concentrated, this is by far the biggest vintage for this wine. This is layered, rich, velvety, yet the ripeness is kept in check with abundant balancing acidity. The palate shows ribbons of ripe black and red berries, with notes of nutmeg, loamy dirt, chewy tobacco, bracing acidity, with mouth-coating tannins and notes of espresso and unsweetened, rich dark chocolate on a very long and voluptuous finish. If you are looking for a superbly made Bordeaux that’s in your face without falling into the jammy mess trap, this wine is the right fit for you. 15% Abv. Drink 2028-2035. 93
