Community Tasting Notes 4

September 2, 2013 - From a pristine bottle, this wine had a deep yellow center and clear rims. Given this is no ordinary Bourgogne Blanc, it should not be surprising that it took this wine 3 hours of decanting to open up. The nose showed lemon, almond paste, white stone, and brioche.

In the mouth, this was nice but nothing special until the 3 hour mark. Afterward it showed much more flavor, structure, and length. Overall, this was quite refined and beautifully balanced.

A lovely wine at its peak and pushing on 93 quality. While it will last for a while, I see no reason to wait. Many consistent notes. The hard part is remembering to give it as much aeration as it needs!

August 14, 2011 - I filed another tasting note under Domain Leroy Bourgogne Blanc for this wine when I tasted an earlier bottle. It is not clear from the label which is correct, however, I suspect it might be Maison. From looking at all the notes, this distinction seems to be a common problem.

From a perfect looking bottle(essentially no ullage) this wine seemed a bit less evolved than the previous bottle from the same batch. It looked quite young with a yellow center and clear rims. The medium intensity nose of lemon, apple, vanilla, and wet rocks was appealing.

While it was pretty good from the first pour, it was much more open after 2-3 hours of air. It showed nice richness, solid acidity and good length. Again, this is premier cru quality and, while it can be drunk now, this will actually get a touch better with 5+ more years of age!

December 24, 2009 - From a pristine bottle, this wine displayed a medium yellow center and light rims. The nose of lemon oil with butterscotch tones was intense and dispelled any notion that this was a regular Bourgogne.

The wine improved over the course of the next 2 hours to show premier cru weight and length. An outstanding value and well worthy of aging which, I would speculate, it rarely gets. I have had this wine numerous times and rated it consistently between 90 and 92. The better bottles seem to have a bit more sap and finishing acidity. Not coincidentally, these are the bottles I let air for a long time.

By the way, I tend to only buy Leroy's white Bourgognes from extremely ripe vintages due to Leroy's style of wine making.

March 7, 1992 - At S&F Leroy survey. Very clean, brilliant straw color. Has some nice fruit, though no blockbuster. Palate is rather blasé, with very little in the way of fruit. All wood and acid. a distinct disappointment. I think even this rating is generous. 4-9-10-5: 78/100.
