June 22, 2023 - I enjoyed this wine upon release, but I may have waited too long, this particular bottle was past peak !!
Nearly perfect cork, saturated 1/8", easily removed after at least 8 years in the bottle. Consumed over three days, vac u vin and refrigerated. Dark golden honey color displaying some oxidation with excellent clarity. Aromas of tropical fruits and honeysuckle with flavors of apricot, peach cobbler, apple, and quince with a medium finish. Well balanced and toasty with a crisp medium finish with classic white Rhône stone fruit pit flavor that combines with the subtle mineral tones from the rocky vineyard site. This Rhône blend is 50% Marsanne, 25% Roussanne, and 25% Viognier. The Marsanne dominates with a slight soapy flavor. Aromas and flavors are much more apparent as the wine approaches room temperature. Enigma is made from fruit harvested from one vineyard site, Suma Kaw, planted in volcanic soil at an elevation of 3,000 feet in Pleasant Valley area of El Dorado County. This high, cool elevation permits the fruit to hang for full flavor development while maintaining proper acidity. The grapes were hand-picked and whole-cluster pressed. Fermentation took place in older French oak barrels and sur lie aging. Excellent winemaking by Bill Easton.

November 23, 2022 - I wanted to love this but it seemed a tad ripe and a bit over oaked for my tastes. Okay but no comparison to similar Rhône style white blends from Tablas Creek.

April 5, 2022 - Perhaps too old. This was rather simple, very similar to their Viognier I had last week. Stone fruits, lean, end of story…

September 27, 2021 - Dark Gold in color. Nose of dried apricots, flowers, butter, stone fruits, herbs, and yeast. Medium-light bodied, acidic, and creamy smooth. Palate of fresh peaches, apricots, granite. Mid palate becomes tart, and almost bitter, with peach pit and citrus rind. Finish is long, mouthwatering, white pepper, minerals, with a bit of dried apricots.

This vintage fails to push the right buttons like the 2013 did. Still a very enjoyable wine but veers a bit too bitter for me to rave about it.
