March 12, 2024 - Just as the bottle we had in latter 2023, this just knocks it out of the park -- a wine I would expect to be coming out of a traditional barolo house -- that's how good it is. See notes from Aug 2023.

August 5, 2023 - This is even a bit greater than the last bottle. Incredible tar and earthy notes on the nose. Black cherry, earth, and good acidity, with moderate tannins at the end. What a deal.

May 28, 2023 - Nothing but superlatives again for this wine. It punches so far above its weight class -- it's not only a luscious bottle in itself (as noted in some detail in previous bottles, but is an absurd QPR.

November 26, 2022 - Really tannic at first, but nice cherry fruit with alpine evergreen trees and mountain air on a cold day. Darker flavors and earthy mushroom flavors emerged after time along with wet stones and a hint of cayenne and nutmeg. As it sat, the tannins calmed down a bit but were still strong. The tannins were finally fully integrated on day 2, when it showed its best and was perfectly polished. This should have aged more. This could have aged for another 10 years—for a $17 bottle, that’s pretty impressive. Great stuff for the price—I should buy a case. I love these Spannas, especially from Vallana!

November 5, 2022 - Declining! It was great two years ago...

Rose petals, pine...almost brandy flavors on the nose. More primary on the palate with black cherries, prune compote, cinnamon, dust, clove, bacon grease. Quite tertiary at this point. Medium body and pretty strong medium + tannins (not as big as Langhe OR as big as they were two years ago).

    Drink now, obviously.
