February 22, 2018 - Costabate (only produced in magnum, circa 600), the label, was born with the 2009 vintage. I've tried them all, and I've largely enjoyed them, but never saw them as worth their price; certainly none prior has spoken to me. That's all changed with this new release, the 2012, which instantly spoke to me, with its charming and elegant array of brown spices, dried herb, and dried strawberry surrounding a core of elegant, lightly sappy red fruits. Drop dead gorgeous, this then follows up with plenty of fine structure, and good>vg length. There is SO much flavor here, in the very best of ways (i.e. nothing gratuitous) that it's impossible not to fall deeply in love with it. The best is likely yet to come; should live for decades, if only one can keep their hands off of it. 240 Euro at the cantina. A masterpiece. 15,0% abv., already full resolved; #523/550. highly recommended
