December 29, 2023 - What a joy. Palmer with a syrah spice. In a gorgeous place right. Still primary fruit.

October 14, 2021 - A private dinner (Restaurant De Lage Vuursche, Lage Vuursche, NL): In the 19th century it was not unusual to “strengthen” top Bordeaux wines with a dash of Hermitage wine from the Rhône. Since 2004, Château Palmer has been producing small quantities of wine which revive this old practice, blending equal quantities of Cabernet-Sauvignon and Merlot from Palmer’s own vineyards with 15% Hermitage Syrah. It is not produced every year, and I had never tasted a “Hermitagé” wine before, so I was very happy to find a bottle tonight on the wine list tonight. It delivered Margaux delicatesse and fragrance with a touch of spicy Hermitage masculinity. A chameleon with a lovely complexity. It is a bit drying though, even if the high quality oak is perfectly integrated. Maybe time will soften it.
