Community Tasting Notes 6

January 16, 2021 - Sadly some mushroomy notes from the cork detracted a little from what would have been a wonderful bottle. Rich and heady dried fruits coupled with decaying rose notes and smoke. It is full and layered in the mouth, with really good volume and a finish loaded with flora.

March 2, 2019 - Acker 2019/03 (Marea): Great deep nose and aging; slightly too much acid. 91

September 6, 2018 - A complex nose of liqueur cherry, Indian spices, decaying rose and earth. The palate is rich and heady, with powerful savoury flavours and a strap of licorice weaving through the flavour profile. It is a Barbaresco of good presence, character and strength and it continued to build in the glass.

December 7, 2013 - Ninth Annual White Truffle Dinner (Chez Weber - Chicago IL): Incredibly pale tea color. Nice floral start with dried rose petal, some mushroom, very mature red cherry aromas. Subtle and nuanced flavors, still interesting but lost in the flight.

July 3, 2011 - Light reddish-brown to amber hue. First almost closed, the nose slowly opens up to a lovely but understated bouquet of dried fruits, oranges, liquorice, tea and tobacco with gravelly and floral overtones. On the palate it's a feminine, almost burgundian expression with nice orange acidity and finely grained tannins with a hint of austerity. The finish is the weak part, its' slightly thin and doesn't really take off. Giacosa's Montefico '70 walks it's path downhill in a very well behaved way, but tonight Drouhin's Fleurie '67 stole the show.
