September 4, 2023 - Two years since my last bottle and this hasn't mellowed much but I'm enjoying it more. Cedar, tobacco, cigar ash, black cherry, bitter greens. The finish is astringent but I wouldn't call the tannins brutal, merely strong. Tastes like some Cab Sauv was blended in but probably just the heavy oak. Plenty of lift, so a very long life ahead of it. Great for hearty Italian fare but still a baby at 7 years old.

Some Internet searching reveals 5% Merlot and a current price of $40. Very happy I picked up a case as a Garagiste mystery for $20 a bottle.

May 6, 2023 - This is almost showing like a super traditional/rustic Barolo, which was my first blind guess although I had also called Sangiovese as my "backup" guess before the reveal (I'll call that a win!) At this stage I'd call it very austere and a bit challenging - dried cherry, some red apple, wood planks (almost like tree bark) on the nose (neither "fresh" nor "powerful", very ruddy and earthy), and a palate so densely packed with chalky, gritty tannin that I hardly noticed the pretty sour cherry tones and beautiful balanced acidity. This ABSOLUTELY NEEDS nice Italian food to show well right now, and I can't say the clear quality of the wine made it easy to overlook the "harshness" of it- then again, I'd love to try one in another 5 years with fatty, rich meat. I should mention that distinct "dried fruit" tones, very slightly oxidative apple notes, and brutal tannins aren't my favorite things to begin with - but others love all that stuff, so your mileage may vary.

November 16, 2022 - Pop and pour. Notes from 48 hrs open. Lovely nose of blood orange, black pepper, black cherry. On the palate: lovely acidity and fantastic density. Palate mirrors the nose: soft tannin on the finish. Yum.

October 20, 2022 - 3rd day in and I’m really enjoying it. 1st day was a bit bitter, closed and acidic. Now it has mellowed and tastes richer. Holding my other bottle until 24-25.
