April 22, 2019 - I wasn't sure what to expect from this bargain Barolo. Very pale colour but some soft red fruits on the nose. After 2-3 hours it opened and it showed a fragrant nose and decent fruit on the palate. Very light wine (much lighter than I expected) but quite elegant with soft fruit and good, juicy acidity. Good with food (slow-cooked lamb shoulder) and certainly a fair buy at £7.99, reduced, in Lidl.
It paled in comparison with a rich, complex, older Avignonese Grandi Annate which followed but that is to be expected, since the Montepulciano costs many times more. This was clearly not a fair comparison but the the Barolo certainly came over as a good value, solid wine.

October 6, 2018 - Red glas and a nose with hints of plum and wet leather. Missing the structure of a typical Barolo and seems very light, too light. There are some tannins but not well structured or integrated. The taste however is not unpleasant with red fruit and some wooden notes.

March 18, 2018 - PnP to satisfy our curiosity as we've never had a sub-$10 Barolo. At 11a.m. it was a real surprise. We found nice color, fruit, and aromas, but it was lacking the typical body and tannic structure of a young Barolo. I will certainly buy more at this price, though. I will save the actual score for later in the day after it has had a chance to open up a bit more.

Okay, after finishing the bottle the same day, I have to say that we were pleasantly surprised, and we'll be buying more. It's very light for a Barolo, but if you can get past that it's actually tasty. It didn't come across as watered down, but think of it as a cross between a proper Barolo and a rosé of Nebbiolo. In the end, it's certainly a bargain at $7.50.
