September 18, 2021 - It's an act of civilization, and an act of faith: entrusting one's aged wine -- carefully stood up for days prior -- to a restaurant's wine professional. One ardently desires to drift down this cultural stream, to participate in the fellowhood of enlightened obsessives, to entrust one's destiny to the timeless tribe of nigh-monastic believers in the possibility of vinous revelation....
But in the end one comes to terms with the fact that -- as with great automotive design, guaranteed pensions, and peak cinephilia -- one was born too late. One learns finally, again and again and again, not to trust.
This was my fool-me-twice(or however-many-times), shame-on-me moment. Went in ready to do it myself, and had no problem convincing my waitress that that was a good idea. At which point the restaurant's Italian-born somm, a man as seasoned as he is charming, detonated himself upon the table, whisked the bottle away, and brought back a Barbaresco shake: a muddy mess of a thing he was still swirling vigorously as he returned to the table.
Our collective petit mort notwithstanding, there was *still* a loveliness and a freshness here that managed to shine through -- but one could just imagine what this wanted to show us, with a loving/thoughtful decant. Dream over; rant concluded. -

March 12, 2016 - Seriously good. Smells of decaying roses, Asian spice, tart cherries and tar. It is full and rich in the mouth with excellent complexity. It keeps getting better and better in the glass and finishes with chewy tannins and leaves a wonderful mouth aroma once the wine is swallowed.

December 4, 2006 - Beautiful wine. Needed about an hour of air. Just the right amount of sweet and sour.
