April 17, 2022 - Deep fruit flavors with lots of licorice. “Wet animal hair juice” was the word of the night, but what we really meant is that this wine has the typical Carignan meaty flavors. This felt like a Syrah except not so pedestrian like many new world Syrahs can be. The fruit concentration is really pretty incredible, except that I thought it thinned out with food.

November 10, 2019 - Sight: medium+ ruby, very light staining, medium+ tearing, starting to give off some fine sediment, no noticeable rim variation.

Nose: clean, medium+ intensity, developing, blackberry, red plum, raspberry, black plum, licorice, worn leather, tilled soil, black pepper, dried herbs, cured meat, cedar, clove, bitter chocolate, baked red plum, dried sour cherry.

Palate: dry, medium+ acid, medium+ tannin, medium alcohol (13.3%), medium+ body, medium+ intensity, blackberry, red plum, raspberry, ripe strawberry, black cherry, licorice, worn leather, tilled soil, dried herbs, black pepper, cured meat, cedar, dark chocolate, baked red plum, dried cherry.

Overall: A very well-made, elegant, balanced, and interesting wine. Good core of just-ripe red and black fruit that is beginning to develop beautifully into the baked/dried realm. Interesting savory elements that are ever so slightly gamey, but this really is a polished and elegant wine. Has the structure and stuffing to age in the medium term; I have no idea how much more complexity will develop, but I'd bet on it being a good cellar candidate for the next few years. In any case, it's absolutely delicious right now!

October 21, 2019 - Enjoyed it with pizza. Want to try it with a more substantial meal. Believe it has a lot to offer.

October 20, 2019 - No notes taken but I remember thinking that it could pass for a whole-cluster Anderson Valley Pinot (and that's a compliment). Versatile at the table, solid value.
