Community Tasting Notes 5

  • North Willis Likes this wine: 89 points

December 13, 2020 - Opened up very nicely, giving up dark, macerated cherry/menthol notes, meat, smoke and tar, on the nose and palate. Medium plus finish carried through on a lively, acidic frame, with some heat on the finish. Good Ripasso QPR.

January 2, 2019 - Blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella
from the upper Ilasi valley, Mezzane di Sopra,
and the hill of Tegnago at 350-500 m with
calcareous marls soil and vines 7-15 yrs old.
    Manual harvest; de-stemming; fermentation in
stainless with ~10-day skin contact, remaining on lees
till January. Then re-passed (“ripassato”) onto
Amarone pomace for 10-15 days, and aged in
new 130 liters oak puncheons for 18 months.
    14.5% Abv.
Proprietor/Winemaker: Diego Cottini (with spouse Annaberta
    and sons Michele and Mattia)

A(ccuracy)=2: Med deep ruby. Ripe robust blend.
B(alance)=2: Prominent fruit, acid, and alcohol.
C(omplexity)=2: Dark berries, plum, spices, jam.
D(epth)=2: Compact mouthfeel. Full palate and finish.

    Wine Tally Score [2,2,2,2] = 8/10

Good use of ripasso without exaggeration.
