Community Tasting Notes 4

December 17, 2014 - The 2004 Gibson Shiraz is a prime time wine in every aspect. Boasting an enticingly opaque ruby core which fades to a light pinkish hue on the rims, the wine is packed with vibrant aromas of blueberries, raspberries, cool mint and led pencil shavings. It is full bodied, rich and unctuous, yet gentle and soft as it envelops the palate with a silky texture and loads of dark fruit, vanilla, white chocolate and hints of Indian spice. The velvety finish goes on for a solid 45 seconds. This lovely Barossa Vale Shiraz should remain at its peak for the next five years.

May 12, 2014 - Drank it tonight over a family dinner.

Colour is slowly but surely turning to reddish brown, giving away its age. Notes of plums on the nose, with the typical (and expected) Barossa Shiraz on the palate: black pepper spice, dotted with power, red fruits and high alcoholic finish. Wine resembles an overripe fruit which is over extracted. Long and lingering finish.

We had curry for dinner, and the spice in the curry made the Shiraz more spicy. Not a good pair with spicy food, especially Asian curry.

This reminds me of the Warrenmang Shiraz which we drank more than a week ago, minus the coffee and chocolate notes, but has a better finish. More complex than the typical supermarket Aussie Shiraz, this wine, at 10 years of age, has its tannins dissolved and is smooth and easy to drink. Style is rather relatively straight-forward and represents good QPR.

February 24, 2013 - Deep red, cherries, menthol. Tar. Wine is maturing. Tannins have mellowed
