  February 11, 2017 - Opened two hours before pairing with a rich dish of Meatballs in Sugo. Cork came out in multiple pieces and promptly decanted. Definitely use a strainer, because lots of coffee grounds sediment. A medium garnet in the glass extending out to an orange rim, with quick-forming thin legs. The interesting nose features brown sugar, tobacco and sweet candied ripe dark cherry. The palate picks up more tobacco, hint of violet, and orange rind to join the notes on the nose. Initially very fine drying tannins, which are mitigated with food. Very good acidity and a 20+ second finish. Both HRH and I really enjoyed this. My take: presently at, or just slightly beyond, peak. Definitely drink if you have multiple bottles, but could wait a year with one left to appreciate more secondary/tertiary character.

  December 22, 2014 - DoA/corked. It's twin bottle from year ago was fabulous. They were bought, cellared, maintained, exactly the same. I dated twins once; same kind of story.

  November 9, 2009 - Medium ruby with wide garnet rim. The appearance of barolos always makes me think they are overaged... it's only when you start to drink them, you realize they are still full of life and fruit. Medium (-) intensity & fully developed nose of red fruit, raspberries, plums and strawberries (yes!) combined with dried fruit, roses & a light touch of oak. On the palate - medium (+) acidity, medium body and medium ripe tannins combined with medium (+) very ripe, almost sweet red fruit and herbaceous flavours - grass, wet leaves. Long length. Overall a very good wine, with amazing concentration of fruit at this age. Was afraid to decant it, but let it open in the glass - just great. Ready to drink, but can keep another 3-5 years. Cheers!

  January 23, 2009 - Barolo Seminar with Tom Hyland (Perman Wines, Chicago IL): nose: this was wide open and sweetish with lots of strawberries, red cherries, wild flowers, garden herbs, some bits of truffles and hints of tar. Completely ready to go with secondary characteristics emerging with the primary tones too. A very pretty and complex nose at this point in time

  overall: this wine was singing for me. Very lovely and understated, much more in a feminine style from a hot vintage. Great feel and aromatics, this is one to start drinking up as it won't be long lived and is certainly providing joy
