April 22, 2007 - Okay first let me say because I spent the better part of 1999 and 2000 in Ankara it's hard for me to be objective about this wine. That out of the way this is a lighter red that in my opinion is always a great value. It is in the tradition of a Malbec from Pomerol but with many older, more ancient wine influences as you'd expect from a wine that comes from a region like Anatolia. We had this wine with London Broil and a pasta and a mixed vegtable side dish. The wine is a lovely ruby red in the glass and reasonable legs so it's very pleasing on the eyes. On the pallette there was very little tannin left but enough to differentiate it from anything other than a reaonable glass of wine. The taste contained hints of apple and of course grape and just enough citrus to make me really enjoy the wine. One of the things I like about this wine is the producer Kavaklidere never allows the aging process to get the wine too oaky so you always taste the fruit and the wine with just a hint of the barrel present. That said I wouldn't let this vintage age much more so I'll be drinking my last two bottles of this vintage soon also.
