January 18, 2021 - A brilliant Nebbiolo - supposedly from a lesser Barbaresco vintage - nothing floral or sweet, all grounded and savoury. A bouquet of red cherries and plums, melted road tar, menthol, damp peaty soil and dried herbs. On palate, still quite coiled and tight but open enough to be enjoyed now. Ovello typicity. Earthy with underbrush, plush red cherries - some sour - and plums, soy, sottobosco and creosote. Piercing but not aggressive acidity. Structured, full and dense. The tannic grip on the quite long finish suggest this Ovello should be even better from 2024+.

December 27, 2020 - Ovello is one of the larger crus and hence can sometimes be difficult to have a good understanding of the true characteristics. Aromas of wild blackberry, plums, crushed stones, dried herbs and tar. The palate is much more herbacious and serious versus the Pora; This is of medium-full bodied with firm tannins wild mountain spicy dark fruit, dried herbs, black tea, crushed stones, with a rich and savory finish. This needs a little more time and even though I tasted this over a few nights my notes remained the same. A solid Cru but not one I would re-buy, I don't get to 95 of Monica. 92+

November 25, 2020 - In my opinion better than many of the below notes imply but really needed time. Drank from a magnum that was never decanted. Initially sharp and acidic but come hour six open it really began to soften. Night two was the biggest change with fruit and finesse starting to emerge. Soft red fruit, truffle, mineral, and tar. Acidity remained high so more of a food wine than a drinker. Nothing flashy just a solid work horse. Needs 5 more year to come into a better window

November 15, 2020 - Just opened up the second bottle of a case. First notes on this wine was about 6 months ago. This continues to improve and is drinking even better.
Great acidity, medium red-light fruit/tar nose, tannins are there but the fruits are dominant and leave a sweetness the gives this wine great length.
A very approachable ,very good Barbaresco that will fatten up even more with age but is at a stage of maturing I very much enjoy. Wow

August 19, 2020 - Uni dimensional and awkward tannins. Am disappointed but it could be a storage problem along the way
