November 25, 2021 - A nice Riesling that was enjoyed over Thanksgiving dinner.

October 4, 2019 - Brilliant deep yellow gold. Low intensity nose of citrus and stone fruit with a light herbal note. The palate is not very concentrated; instead, age has muted the body but not in a bad way - a lot of weight, but somehow delicate. Dried orange, a bit of apricot pit bitterness, and a salty, stony mineral acidity. The acidity is piercing, and makes this so refreshing and gulpable. This is moving beyond its prime, clearly, but is still so delicious. Sadly, open to done was less than two hours, so I didn’t have a good sense of how this wine might develop with some air.

June 25, 2019 - Birthday bash tasting (Convivial - Washington, DC): A bit tired, but still nice, showing a lot of attractive aged characteristics. Crisp yet lush with apricot and spiced tea notes. I get this distinct pine sap note that is pretty cool.

March 24, 2016 - This might be a bit on the downhill slide, but it is still a beautiful example of an aged white wine. Surprisingly, the nose was a bit subdued and I was expecting a petrol bomb. On the palate there is an overriding sense of smokiness, which adds a depth, rather than being overpowering. There seems to be a foundation of almost cider like apples, with dried oranges, tangerines, limes, salty meyer lemon and a slight mint note all covered in a patina of 24 years of age. The acidity is fading, but the finish, while not powerful at all, has a lingering, haunting, quality to it. If you appreciate the uniqueness of aged wines, this has it in spades.

April 12, 2015 - Exactly, and I mean exactly, the same as my 6/20/12 note. This hasn't budged, is fat at first, then sleekens to a shimmering example of aged Riesling. This has another decade ahead of it, at least. I'm thankful for CT, in that I could easily see that note, open and aerate the bottle significantly ahead of serving, which helped its performance significantly. I strongly recommend a six hour slow ox, and every couple hours significantly shaking, to aerate the bottle. Was brilliant, and still unfolding after open an hour in glass. 92pts, 94pts personal preference.

(Zilliken Saarburger Rasch Spatlese Riesling) #2; COLOR-golden; NOSE-Creamsicle; a little Petrol; very peachy; hot apple sauce; TASTE-heavy apples; a little metallic component on the back-end; minerality; tremendous characteristics; will last another couple of years; for $35 bones and for this age, I'm a big fan; GV-90

(Zilliken Saarburger Rausch Spatlese) Excellent nose of steel, lime blossoms and a touch of petrol. Incredibly minerally palate with powdery fruit and ripe acids. Excellent mature Spatlese.
