August 9, 2022 - Slight nose of cherry and floral. Pale garnet with Tawney hue on rim. Cherries, tobacco, medium acid with high tannins. Light body and medium long finish

November 21, 2021 - Drinking well above its price point, this wine is loaded with stewed cherries, lots of rose petals, tea, with subtle leathery notes. Definitely lighter and more elegant than its Barolo neighbor, with softer and sweetener tannins, but still evident. This was really quite enjoyable.

June 5, 2021 - Such an elegant wine. Lithe but powerful, great tannic bite and earth, rose aromas for days. This was opened at the end of the night, so detailed notes suffer. I will have to get more and spend more time with this wine and my thoughts.

November 21, 2020 - Nose: The nose is fresh and aromatic with strawberries, red cherries, licorice, tar, rose petals, and roasted herbs. This hits the upper register nicely and shows off good balance along with good depth.
Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with crisp, high acidity and slightly chalky, high tannins. The tannins are just a slight bit bitter but the feel is lovely and balanced with strawberries, red cherries, licorice, tar, and rose petals.
Overall: This is a lovely and balanced Langhe Nebbiolo. This delivers exactly what you want from a Nebbiolo without paying the extra premium for a Barolo or Barbaresco.1 person found this helpful Comment -

Full Pull Hidden Barbaresco, 6/22/2018(Rizzi Langhe Nebbiolo) Hello friends. “Baby Barolo what is going on?!” That’s the first note I wrote after sampling Rizzi’s deliriously good 2015 Langhe Nebbiolo. I eventually figured out what was going on, and my “baby Barolo” note was only a few miles off base.We have just a smidge left of one of our most popular import wines of the year. Remember the response from the importer when I inquired as to whether this Langhe Nebbiolo was actually secret Barbaresco? Yes, the fruit comes solely from vineyards within the Barbaresco appellation, and ALL FROM CRU vineyards: Cru Nervo, Cru Pajoré & Cru Rizzi. The fruit used for the Langhe Nebbiolo is simply from the younger and slightly higher yielding vines… So, this is TRULY BABY BARBARESCO. It is aged in much the same way and in the same vessels as the Cru Barbaresci: stainless steel fermentation, then in 50HL Slavonian wood casks for 1 year. (No cement tank aging for the Langhe Nebbiolo). Philosophically, the winery is decidedly old school: no new French oak, no barrique. All about purity of fruit, representing the terroir and using “green” growing and winemaking practices. Originally offered June 2018. Archive.
