April 21, 2019 - From a bottle purchased in Japan- not a huge umeshu market in the US, though if this is any example there should be. Served on the rocks with a plate of plum pickles as an aperitif.
Opens with strong plum (obviously) and apricot honey notes with a rich sweetness and tangy acidity at first, then segues into a richer and much more complex oaky, sherried flavor from the cask. It’s not supposed to be anything incredible but for $30 USD it really delivers a well-composed drinking experience, everything is in the right place and works harmoniously.
