Community Tasting Notes 5

May 7, 2023 - Dark red fruit on the nose, soft on the palate with muted red fruit. Not a world beater but went well with filet. Short finish

October 6, 2021 - Quite a deep ruby, even showing a little maturity.
Warm cherry and black fruit on the nose, with a touch of woody spice and another touch of leather.
Open, enticing attack with smooth cherry fruit. Then there's a bit more cherry kernel as the wine sits in the mouth, turning into pretty hefty tannins. Just a touch of heat on the finish. Great length, though largely from the puckering tannins.
There's something rather interesting about this. Will be interesting to come back to it tomorrow, to see if a bit of time and air knocks the edge off those dominant tannins, as the fruit isn't quite standing up to the tannins.
At this stage, I was giving it 86/100.
But then I had it with a really good steak, and my god, that transformed it completely. The tannins disappeared instantly, and it opened up - and lightened up, with all the interest I thought I could find, coming to the fore.
The next day, with half the bottle left on the side with a cork in it overnight, it was even better. One of the greatest changes in a wine with food that I can immediately recall.

    May 5, 2021 - Light body, round.

April 11, 2021 - PnP one glass on night one with no notes taken. Vacuum stopper. Notes from night two.

Translucent ruby, edging a bit toward the garnet side of ruby. Red and black cherry and currant on the nose. A touch of leather. Tight and not very forthcoming, but there's something there worth exploring. No heat on the nose.

Medium bodied. Red cherry on the palate dominates. More leather. Tannins are stripping big time. They were more finely grained night one, but they were also quite obviously tightly wound on night one as well. Acidity is medium.

This is going to be a great food wine. It's young and it needs to loosen up a bit. Even so, $8? Oh hell yeah. This is damn good cellar protector infantry stuff. If I owned an Italian joint this would be a strong contender for the house red. A nice little wine that comes with a decent amount of finesse and balance rarely found at this price point. Even better, no off-putting aromas or flavors that are so commonly found at this price point.
No score, as I owe this more time and dedicated night one notes. I won't hesitate to buy more than my current stock on hand.
