October 22, 2019 - Reticent, initially. After 2+ hours open, this nose is now beginning to burst open with dark berry fruit, spice, and saddle leather. A little umami character. Clean and delicious on the palate. I am suspecting this might even be better on day 2. Paired beautifully with a house-made pasta with spicy Merguez sausage, broccoli rabe, and lots of garlic. Yum!

October 7, 2019 - Ultra smooth. Mostly has cool characteristics of the cab, but more flavor (must be the cinsault and carignan?!). I loved it. 92/93

September 23, 2019 - A really good bottle. Cedar box and exotic spice on the nose, a complete spectrum of flavours exploding in the mouth. Wow, this is why we love Musar when it's on song!!

September 7, 2019 - Half bottle consumed over 2 nights.
Very nice. Plenty of cherry fruit and typical funky notes. Lashings of acidity to the wine keeps it fresh and moreish without being overbearing. Plenty of life in these 2003s but very nice drinking now too.

(Chateau Musar (Bekaa Valley)) This is far younger than I would usually approach any vintage of Chateau Musar, nevertheless it does show undeniable Musar character even at this early juncture. It has a good depth of colour although it isn't an intensely dark Musar. On the nose it is very true to form, showing deliciously sweet fruit nuanced with cloves, with a dried and spicy character. Typical Musar on the palate although with lots of youthful exuberance, very sappy and substantial too, richly imbued with structure. It is rather reticent in some respects, quite hard, withdrawn and peppery-spicy here, but these awkward elements of adolescence will fade with time. And then it should be very good.
