July 20, 2020 - Asparagus gang at Maison Dakota. Drank in Grassl Cru.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is not clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of red spice, red licorice, light VA, animal meat and brett, dark red cherries and cranberries. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), lively but integrated high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of animal leather and meat, red licorice, sweet spices, grilled herbs, dark red cherries, cranberries. Lifted spritzy feeling on the medium+ finish.
Very good quality. Very drinkable, if you look beyond the obvious wine faults. I like the mouth-feel and red fruit and overall lifted feels. This can still age chugging on.

June 27, 2020 - Open, expressive on the nose. Dark sweet fruit, spices, cedar, leather, sweet tobacco. Pronounced acidity on the palate, resolved tannins, bright, good fruit. Good intensity and length. Slowly drink up. 91-93

June 6, 2020 - Showed beautifully served with slow cooked beef short ribs in a red wine reduction. Resolved tannins but still enough acidity to cut through the fat. Dried fruits on the pallet, medium finish. Wonderful.

    May 31, 2020 - Cork pulled clean
Lovely nose of cherry and plum fruit, nail polish and ribeye steak. Palate shows similar promise but is short on the finish and fades pretty quickly
Normally score Musar higher but lack of length merits the lower mark

May 31, 2020 - Decanted for almost two hours. Fantastic smooth red berries, cherry and a bit of a cranberry crunch to it. So good and going strong!

(Chateau Musar (Bekaa Valley)) This is far younger than I would usually approach any vintage of Chateau Musar, nevertheless it does show undeniable Musar character even at this early juncture. It has a good depth of colour although it isn't an intensely dark Musar. On the nose it is very true to form, showing deliciously sweet fruit nuanced with cloves, with a dried and spicy character. Typical Musar on the palate although with lots of youthful exuberance, very sappy and substantial too, richly imbued with structure. It is rather reticent in some respects, quite hard, withdrawn and peppery-spicy here, but these awkward elements of adolescence will fade with time. And then it should be very good.
