Community Tasting Notes 6

July 23, 2011 - Broken cork. Double decanted one hour prior to tasting. Mellow. Full mouthfeel. Leather, alcohol, cherries, perhaps a touch too sweet. Good tart finish though.

March 6, 2011 - Napa Offline and a whole bunch of wine, mostly Syrah (Napa Valley Wine & Cigar): Ruby/brown in color. This is probably the oldest Carlisle I have tasted. The nose is meaty with raspberries and some VA or perhaps it is just the age. On the palate, this is complex and layered. While not holding up like the Lagier-Meredith, it is delicious and mature right now. At 13 years from vintage, there is nothing wrong with that. Very good. Later in the evening, someone handed me their glass which had obvious TCA. They said it was this wine, which I found odd. I am usually sensitive, but got nothing from my glass. Alan Bree thought there was no TCA in his glass. Not sure what the issue was and forgot to go back and check. I enjoyed the glass I had.

November 29, 2007 - Garagiste Treasure Hunt (Chicago, IL): Nose is full of meaty dark fruits. Full bodied palate is well proportioned with big bold fruits and tannic structure. I had a hard time finding the delineation in this wine --- a common issue I have with most mourvedre based wines.

March 4, 2007 - Good sweet round fruit, low acidity. Drink now.

March 12, 2006 - The Blind Drunks monthly tasting ("The Garage"): Tasted double blind. Two people in the group independently brought the same bottle, which even ended up in the same flight, right next to one another. This bottle was corked. Very educational to have the same wine side by side, one singing, and one corked. The difference is amazing.
