May 3, 2022 - First bottle pnp'd on Carol's retirement trip. First day in Zurich. Enjoyed a glass before an early burger dinner but overall enjoyed the slow ox of 5-6 hours afterward, resting up from the long flight and watching Harry Potter trailers (one of Carol's favs) dubbed in German. Man, does that look and sound weird......

Initially, this is quite tight but over 5 hours of sitting on the counter/cork out (I didn't pack any decanters), it settles in nicely. This Sonoma entry, and Arrowood in general, not the fruit bomb that so many Napa cabs can be. This one is structured and nuanced. Dark red cherry/black fruit, some cassis, loads of smoky/oak notes up front and yummy barrel spice, particularly on the ending. Drinks like a spicy Cherrywood, rather than oak. This clearly has many years ahead. The oak could use a little more integration, might hit 94-95 eventually, but it's quite good with air right now. Cork back in the bottle and into my backpack and will go onto the bus tomorrow. Maybe we'll sit in the back and finish it then? I DID pack the flexible plastic stemless wine glasses! Addendum to follow if anything of note to report the 2nd day.

Didn't notice til just now I had one of these about 6 months ago. This one very similar, looking back. Will hold the rest of these '14s for a number of years to follow them as they age.

Ok......so the wine only made it to 4am Zurich time (really 10pm back in Naples) so I don't feel ashamed in the least in finishing the bottle, sitting up in bed answering emails, this early in the morning! Carol says it's better than it was at dinner 16 hours ago. I agree. I'd have to go at least 1 more point if not 2. It's integrated and softened and the cherry oak has calmed, but the great barrel spice is still there driving it. Beautiful 'chalky' feel in the mouth right now. 94 at this stage heading toward 95.

November 7, 2021 - Coravin pour.......people still don't get it. Richard Arrowood's cabs are to be aged, or opened and aired.....for hours. His '87's are still drinking great. This '14 needs every bit of 3-4 hours of air. Or 10 more years. Right now with 3 hours air, it is perfumed, incense on the nose and on the palate. Great red/black cab fruit, powdery tannins are still integrating. Acidity is beautiful. So happy to have 5 more of these in the cellar. In 20 years, Jen...you'll be thanking me!

October 16, 2020 - Heavy oak, tannic, fruit. Bold. Id lay this down for at least 5-10 years to let it balance out and integrate.

July 11, 2020 - Opened for wife's birthday/anniversary weekend. First night this was far too tannic brooding and bold even with 3 hours of air. But the second night this rounded out and was delicious.

Long story short, give this time, lots of time. Open in 2024.
