September 24, 2019 - Bibendum Portfolio Tasting 2019: Lemon, cherry and tar. Fruit shows off a bit of sweetness on the palate but there is some good push into the mid palate, travels into a medium length finish without any bumps.

September 8, 2019 - Great QPR! Roses, tar, cherries and a hint of mushroom on the nose. Drinks great right now. Paired with a meaty lasagna. Great combo. Should have bought more!

August 4, 2019 - A decent Alba Dolcetto, but I expected more from Cavallotto. I guess the vintage is a step down from 2016. The warm summer is quite obvious...

February 14, 2019 - Piedmont; 2/11/2019-2/15/2019 (Alba, Italy): A very hot vintage, with temperatures of 40-42C in August the whole time. This was the earliest harvest for this wine ever. Quality was good, with the wine showing lots of fruit, but quantity was down. Fermented in stainless steel, malolactic in concrete, and 6 months in neutral oak. Released around May/June of last year. The perfume and fruit are very intense, and definitely show the ripeness of the vintage. There's so much fruit you get the perception of sweetness here. A little drying on the back end, with the tannins giving a very strong showing. Some black cherry as well, but despite all these references to ripeness, this wine still has a good amount of zesty acid. About 10-13k bottles of this are made per year.

September 22, 2018 - 2018 Cavallotto visit with Giuseppe Cavallotto (Tenuta Bricco Boschis, Castiglione Falletto): “From a hill in front of Bricco Boschis with a different soil, clay and limestone and no sand, unlike Bricco Boschis”, Giuseppe said. Bottled in June 2018, and described as “too young” by Giuseppe. He said that, for Cavallotto, “all our wines are important” noting that they green harvest Dolcetto. The Dolcetto had one year in neutral, large format oak. Dark colour. A nose of spices, blood and fur with smoky barbequed meats. I liked this wine. It was silky smooth, plush and opulent, but, as Giuseppe warned, a bit tight. Giuseppe described the wine as “elegant” saying “don’t open it in the first year – normally it will keep 2-3 years, but here more like 2 years only”.
