August 12, 2023 - Drinking beautifully now. Totally in balance with a velvety smooth and lingering finish. Wish I had more left.

Surprisingly for a Malbec, this wine's appearance is surprisingly translucent dark cherry red color with a pale raspberry rim. The fragrant nose is expressive and very attractive - even slightly wild - with perfumed aromas of raspberries, some mulberry, a little bit of herbal spice, floral hints of violets and more exotic flowers and a touch of brambly blackberry. The wine is lively, moderately full-bodied and ripe, yet surprisingly crunchy on the palate with flavors of raspberries, fresh chokeberries, some sour red plums, a little bit of fresh cranberries, a hint of savory wood spice and a wild touch of zesty Campari character. Overall the wine is enjoyably structured with its high acidity and slowly piling-up medium tannins that offer some pleasant grip. The finish is somewhat grippy, quite fresh and pretty lengthy with juicy flavors of cranberries, raspberries, some savory wood spice, a little bit of astringent chokeberry character, light licorice tones and a sappy hint of herbal spice.
This wine was a real surprise for a Malbec! Usually when I'm having a new world Malbec, I expect it to be a very big, super-ripe and soupy monster wine with complete opacity. This wine, instead, turned out to be a remarkably fresh and crunchy wine that feels more like something that would come from a young natural producer from Cahors! This shows some very obvious varietal characteristics of Malbec (mainly chokeberry-driven dark fruits), but not the amount of extraction and ripeness one is accustomed to see in these wines. Overall a very lovely, fresh and balanced effort with a lot of depth. Despite its high-ish alcohol, this is very drinkable stuff! Nice.
