Community Tasting Notes 5

June 1, 2023 - PnP - cork wet about 1/3rd up. Gorgeous pungent nose of black cherry and rose petal with some lavender. On the palate this is silky with more cherry and other darker fruits. Tannins on the finish are buried in the fruit and the whole clusters are not apparent, unlike some Rhys pinots. One of the best Rhys I've tasted and will continue to age well, though gorgeous now.

May 1, 2023 - I think my favorite Rhys going back 10 years.

September 9, 2021 - 13.2% abv. Bright burgundy red, very expressive aromas. On the palate, red cherry, raspberry, baking spice, pomegranate and floral highlights. Very lively and tense, excellent focus and balance. Delightful now, if a bit primary. Best years lie 6-8 years ahead.

July 29, 2018 - Another winner. It's concentrated and very dark. Smoke cherries and tar flavor. Lots of fine tannins boiling about and whole cluster deliciousness. Excellent.

July 25, 2018 - July 2018 Rhys Visit--Taste The 2016s (Rhys Estate (At The Winery)): This was poured next to the 2016 Alpine so we could do a side-by-side. The color on the Swan is darker. 100% whole cluster and it emits a bit of that quality in prickly, stem note in the aromatic. Pomegranate, cherry, lots of primary fruit, reminding of a wine that is more like a barrel sample, full of fruit, power and youthfulness. I noted too that the Swan does have similar expression of the Alpine, yet seems to be evolving more slowly.
