January 1, 2021 - I'm glad I took a flyer on this. No notes. It opened a bit too polished but settled in. Some sweet herbs, cool+warm climate Syrah-like with a pleasing richness, dark fruits that was never gloppy.

January 6, 2020 - Inky purple with low key dark fruit, earth, crushed gravel On the palate it's medium-bodied, rich and fresh with firm, rustic tannins and black raspberry, black cherry, and black plum flavor underscored with an appealing minerality and a medium finish.

July 11, 2019 - Retail: $32. Lagrein is a difficult find outside of Northern Italy, I am not sure that it is grown in any significant proportions since it is known for a rather high acidity and harsh tannins. But here it is, in Paso Robles. Really dark. Even inky dark. Cassis and blackberry on the nose, but it seems lighter than those fruits would suggest. The palate bears this out, to an extent. It’s not the tannic monster that young wines from Trentino tend to be. While the palate certainly is big and rich, it stops well short of huge. Really nice flavors and balance. Really a well-made wine and a great new world expression of this old world beast. Excellent. thedrunkencyclist.com

October 9, 2018 - Lagrein - another unfamiliar Italian variety. Perhaps the tannic structure of a Cabernet Sauvignon, the color of Petit Verdot, the taste of Syrah? But it was good, 91-92. Surprising restrained fruit for Paso Robles Highlands
